Privacy Policy

Fruitonomy works because neighbors trust each other, and that starts with how we handle your information. Here’s what we collect, why, and what we never do.

The short version

• We never sell your information, and we don’t share it for advertising.
• Your street address stays private. Other members see your general area, not your address. It’s shared only with a neighbor you’ve agreed a handoff with, and only when that handoff needs it.
• We never see or store your card number. Stripe handles payments.
• No advertising trackers. The only cookies we use keep you logged in.

What we collect

• Account details: your name, email address and password. Passwords are stored scrambled (hashed), so even we can’t read them.
• Location: your street address (kept private), your home ZIP code and an optional trading ZIP code. ZIP codes set local prices and show nearby neighbors.
• What you offer and want: listings, amounts, seasons, swap proposals, orders, deliveries, harvest visits (including the time and who’s coming), gifts and ratings.
• Ratings: ratings you give and receive. Other members see only a person’s average once they have 3 or more ratings, never who gave them. Private notes you add to a rating are seen only by Fruitonomy.
• Swap credit: your balance, how many free swaps remain, and a record of fees charged and credit added.
• Payments: when you add credit, Stripe processes your card and tells us the amount and whether it went through. Stripe’s own privacy policy covers the card details you give them.
• Messages to us: anything you send to hello@fruitonomy.com.
• Technical basics: like any website, our host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and troubleshooting.

How we use it

• To run the site: matching neighbors, pricing by ZIP, handling swaps, orders and deliveries, and keeping your credit balance.
• To send account emails: password resets, swap and order updates, and receipts.
• To send Fruitonomy news, only if you opted in. Every news email has an unsubscribe link.
• To keep the site safe: preventing fraud, abuse and fake accounts.

Who we share it with

• Other members: the name you show on the site, your general area, listings and ratings. Your address goes only to a neighbor you’ve agreed a handoff with, and only when needed. For “meet halfway” handoffs, neither address is shared.
• Service providers who run parts of the site for us and may use your information only for that:
  • Kinsta (website hosting)
  • Stripe (payments)
  • Brevo (sending email)
  • ImprovMX (forwarding mail sent to our address)
  Our member mailing list is kept on our own website, not with an outside marketing company. It holds your name, email, city, state and ZIP code, but not your street address.
• Maps: when you tap a map or directions link, it opens Google Maps with that location. Google’s privacy policy applies there.
• When the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open. When you close your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within 90 days. Exceptions: records we must keep for tax, payment or legal reasons, and completed-swap history that another member also relies on, which we keep without your name.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to show you, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you. You can also ask for a copy of it. California residents have these rights under California law, and we give them to every member. We don’t sell or share personal information, so there’s nothing to opt out of. We won’t treat you differently for using these rights. Email hello@fruitonomy.com from the address on your account.

Children

Fruitonomy is for adults 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect information from children.

Security

The site runs over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Passwords are hashed. Addresses are stored privately and released only under the handoff rules above. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version here with a new date. If a change is significant, we’ll let members know.
